Davids take:
Nigel Dunnett, co-author of “Planting Green Roofs and Living Walls,”
This guy has a high level of passion and has implemented more then just over or next to structure stuff. he believes small incremental installations make a difference. I agree with him as he said "Do simple things in places that are not well resourced". Well played Nigel. See what i did there? He is from England so I spliced in a soccer term. ENG 1 USA 1
Susan Weiler, FASLA, is a partner at the Landscape Architecture Firm, Olin Studio. She is co-author of “Green Roof Systems: A Guide to the Planning, Design, and Construction of Landscapes over Structure,” This is a book for any landscape office as we should all look forward to building on structure sooner or later. Her main driving point comes from some serious experience. OLIN STUDIO doesn't mess around as far as i can tell, solid resume of built work. "Every relationship has different requirements". She truly believes that her book should have been there for sale and that there will always be a constant struggle through education in the landscape field. Susan doesn't mess around, and I wouldn't mess with her. I would hire her. By the way OLIN designed the Celebrezze Plaza in Cleveland. Josh Cribbs hangs out there.
http://www.theolinstudio.com/#/home very cool site..this crew has it together.
Please note they dont show the sky, it isnt blue. it is 29 degrees and about to rain...or snow if it is May??
The Policy and Green Roof Panel Discussion:
Stacey Ericksen from the EPA didn't add a whole lot, she was a talking spread sheet. Which is cool if you want to conversate with Excell. Kyle Zappelin added little and complained about cost. Weird considering he is a developer? What? lets just jump to State Senator Chris Romer. This guy came in late with a 17th hole neck tan and shorts. Awesome! Work and play, I like it. We can all strive to be as good as Tiger...Senator Romer is motivated and fighting a good fight. Big picture thinking about the rights Colorodo residence have to "their" water. laws are so prohibitive in allowing any expansion of the Green Roof institution. He is working on a city wide greening, some 20 city blocks...get on board with this guy.

Buffet Lunch: You know the drill, compostable fork, chicken wrap and ice tea. I took a quick tour of the new children's garden that is under construction. If you live here it will be a must visit, if you love your kids that is. If you don't have kids, get busy it will be done in less then 9 months.
Jeffrey Bruce is a landscape architect with a focus on irrigation and providing turf and engineered soils consulting to design the sub-drainage, turf system and soil mix for natural turf and plant material surfaces. if you know me, and i think you do, my brain wondered as soil was discussed. I did however come up with an idea about getting into cruise ship deck design from one of his slides. You listening JW and PC?
Regional Case Studies:
Green roofs are growing,(love puns) and the experts are gathering the aggregate of the benefits. Every year the Green Roof proves it economic and social benefit. (you listening Kyle Zeppelin? That is the coolest name, hands down.)
Grasses For green Roofs:
John Greenlee is a renowned specialist in growing ornamental grasses and grass like plants. He is the owner of Greenlee Nursery and John Greenlee Associates, and author of “The Encyclopedia of Ornamental Grasses” and “The American Meadow Garden.” With a name like GREENLEE, just buy his books. End of story.
Words to live by:
"CONSUMPTION TO RESTORATIVE" "NOTHING IS SELF HEALING LIKE A NATURAL SYSTEM" "SMALL INDIVIDUAL EFFORTS CAN HELP AMELIORATE THE IMPACTS OF UNPLANNED DEVELOPMENT"
